The Top Ten Video Game Systems of All Time

Remember how that dingleberry-sized mario
used to hop around your TV screen (which at the time was not flat) like a
mexican jumping bean into that big green block that was actually supposed to be
a sewage pipe?
How long ago was that, now more and more video games
are begin more intense, more brain-stimulating and addictive due to rises in new
technology.  Which video game systems have we loved throughout the years
the most? WhatsShopping.com finds out
from Nick
Meyer
.

1. NES

It was hard picking a top system from all the great ones we've seen, but the
Nintendo is the one that made video games famous and popular and the nostalgia
factor is too strong to deny the NES the top spot. Who can forget the first time
they played Super Mario Bros. or all those times they had to blow on the
cartridges to get them to work?

Throw in the NES' excellent game library with titles like Metroid, Mike Tyson's
Punch-Out!, all the Mario games, and all the great side-scrolling 2D action
games like the Contra series and this system is just too good to keep out of the
number one spot.

2. Playstation 2

The sheer quantity of great games like the Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear, and God
of War series' made this system the industry standard for most of its life on
store shelves. The graphics were a great leap up from the original Playstation
while the controllers remained comfortable and responsive.

3. Super Nintendo

A more-than-worthy successor to the beloved NES, the Super Nintendo featured
tons of great sequels to NES games like Punch-Out! and Metroid as well as the
Super Mario games and also is the system-of-choice for great 2D RPG's like the
early Final Fantasy games and Chrono Trigger.

4. Sony Playstation

Also well-known for its many great RPG's such as Chrono Cross and myriad Final
Fantasy games, this system had an excellent mix of great 2D and 3D games and has
a gigantic library of games to suit all tastes.

5. XBox 360

Despite the fact that a lot of people have had trouble recently with systems
crashing on them, this system has been a great success in America with its long
list of clever and practical features. The XBox Live service with its gamertags
and online marketplace is the industry standard and the standard wireless
controllers make life easy for gamers used to endless bundles of tangled-up
wires. Add in HD capability and a great library of games and this system gets a
nod as one of the best ever.

6. Sega Genesis

As Sega's answer to the NES, the Genesis (specifically the early Sonic games)
blew gamers away with its fast-for-its-time processing power and 16-bit graphics
capabilities. The Genesis' library is stocked with classic titles in every
genre.

7. Nintendo Wii

While this system is still new and doesn't have a ton of great games, there's no
denying just how innovative and fun this system is with its motion-based
controls. Nintendo used its creativity and vast resources to perfect an idea
many other third-party companies had tried and they're now reaping the benefits
of it at sales counters everywhere.

8. Game Boy Advance SP

The original Game Boy pioneered gaming on the go and this little system made a
good thing much better. The SP unit was particularly brilliant both literally
and figuratively because of its gorgeous light-up screen that enabled gaming in
the dark and kept the screen free of scratches while looking incredibly slick.

Plus, the gaming library was excellent with great newer games and ports of Super
Nintendo and NES classics alike filling the shelves.

9. Sega Dreamcast

This system came out at a bad time and was quickly overshadowed by the
Playstation 2, but it developed a nice cult following when people began to
realize the quality it offered.

The graphics on this system were great for its time and 2D games such as
fighting games look and run amazing on this system. Top games include the
ambitious Shenmue series, the fantastic RPG Skies of Arcadia, and Phantasy Star
Online, one of the first great massively-multiplayer online RPG's.

10. XBox

Many call this system simply a "Halo Adaptor" but that couldn't be farther from
the truth. The XBox has a lot of great games such as Fable and Star Wars:
Knights of the Old Republic to keep gamers busy and was also a graphical
powerhouse for its time.
